Parting out the Celica

Stuff I'm parting out. Posting here and there.

Lemons at CMP

I was in Columbia visiting family this weekend and me and the boys got a chance to go out to CMP to watch Lemons for a bit both days. This just whets my appetite to run a car in Lemons. I saw the Piggies and the Batmobile. There was another team from Greenville running a General Lee Datsun 260, but I didn't get a chance to talk to them. The kids enjoyed the funnel cake and I enjoyed the brief time I got to watch the race.

I got brake parts woohoo!

I didn't notice until this morning there was a package from Rock Auto in the office. A quick check reveals all the brake parts I ordered are here. front pads, rear shoes, hoses all around!

Theme me!

We're going to shoot for a simple theme on our first time out. Yeah, yeah, I had grand visions with the Nash, but that just wasn't going to work out. I'd like to run the Celica a bit more stock the first time, so we're going with a Toyota GT-One Le Mans race car theme.

Add a scoop on the roof and maybe even try to add the nose to the front of the car.

Fluid changes and rain

The car was on stands outside the garage for last nights work session. It was a bit rainy, but we slogged through it. In no particular order, the stuff we got done:
  1. Changed the oil and put a new filter on.
  2. Changed the radiator fluid.
  3. Put the new tires on.
  4. Put the wheel hubs/rotors together and installed them
  5. Installed the old pad - still waiting for the new ones to arrive
  6. Tried to start the car - need to drain the old gas.
We had most of that done by 7:30, including a trip to O'Reilly's. The brake reassembly took about 2 hours, but now we know how to do it!

For next week:
  1. Drain gas!
  2. Replace soft brake lines
  3. Replace brake pads/shoes
  4. Replace differential gear oil
  5. Replace transmission gear oil

No pictures this time, just talky talk.

Get it running and strip it clean!

We got the car running by jumping a borrowed battery and spraying starter fluid in the carb. I like how Eric moved away when I actually turned the key to get her to crank. Very life affirming. We then commenced stripping the car interior of all its bits. This was the fun part. Pull out the crappy blue shag carpet, which didn't match the already mismatched brown and black trim. Remove the plasticy mismatched brown and black trim bits. Marvel at the mostly stripped seat bolts. Wonder at the loose wires under the dash. Bask in the glow that is Lemons car building.

We'll need to change all the fluids and let her run for a bit to flush anything out. I'm searching for some tires and rims. It has 195/75/14 on the front and 205/75/14 on the rear. I'll probably put 195/60/14 all around. I'd also like a spare set of tires for emergencies.

Trunk Monkey included!
Classic 70's interior.
Lovely blue carpet. I've always been suspicious of cars where the carpet doesn't match the drapes trim.
